SASSY SMOOTHIES!

Once a month, I get the pleasure of being on Fox San Antonio's morning show, "I Watch Daytime with Kimberly & Esteban!" I've been coming on the show since 2011! I've made great friends on this journey and I'm so grateful to showcase what I love on such an expansive platform! In my latest segment, I created 3 different smoothies that serve 3 different purposes. These hand-crafted, chef-made smoothies are not only unique, but they're functional & flavorful as well.

My first smoothie is an energy smoothie! I chose fruits that are high in Vitamin C because along with Vitamin C regenerating your immune system, it gives you the boost needed to fight fatigue. This smoothie is best consumed in the morning. Most smoothies are made with milk, yogurt, almond milk, or coconut milk, which is fine, however these ingredients contain magnesium, and magnesium makes you tired. We don't want to feel tired in the morning, am I right?

As far as energy smoothies go, let's avoid using milk-based products. We also want to avoid using orange juice because one glass of freshly squeezed OJ contains 21 grams of sugar, and we're already getting enough sugar in the fruits. I specifically chose these fruits because as they break down, they become viscous and thick, therefore not needing any liquid to supplement it.

And here it is..

Papaya Booster Smoothie

Ingredients 1 cup of papaya Zest of one lemon Zest & juice of one orange 2 strawberries 4 raspberries 4 blueberries 1 cup of cantaloupe 1 pinch of Himalayan Salt 1 cup ice

Method

Throw everything in a blender and blend until smooth!

My second smoothie is a digestive smoothie. Again, I chose fruits AND veggies (because we need our greens) that not only fight constipation, but detoxifies our GI tract as well. Having a healthy gut means having a healthy immune system, heart, brain, and sleep. Speaking of sleep, this smoothie is paired with coconut milk which has the element of magnesium, that promotes sleep! Making this smoothie at night is ideal.

And here you go...

Green Gut Smoothie 2 cups of spinach 1 kiwi, peeled and chopped 3 blackberries 3 raspberries 1 cup of pineapple, peeled and chopped 1 cup coconut milk 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger, peeled and zested directly in blender 1 cup of ice A pinch of Himalayan salt

Method Throw everything in a blender and blend until smooth!

The last smoothie I'm sharing is my post-workout shake for fat loss. When we work out, our bodies use fats and sugars for energy. When we have our post workout shakes, it is important that we choose ingredients our bodies will use to replace those sugars we lost for recovery, versus letting the sugar go into a fat cell. So if we're trying to lose fat, we want to avoid using ingredients with natural sugars in them (i.e. fruit), that way we avoid our fat cells storing those sugars, which ultimately makes us fat. I created this smoothie containing ingredients that helps you lose weight.

Now, if your goal is to build muscle while you workout, then add a half of a banana to this smoothie so you can feed your muscles the fuel they need to help them grow!

And here you are...

Cinnamon Oatmeal Protein Shake

Ingredients 1 cup almond milk 1 scoop whey protein 1/2 cup of whole grain oats 1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter 1 tablespoon of cinnamon 1 pinch of Himalayan salt

1 cup of ice

Method Throw everything in a blender and blend until smooth!
